UK Government respond to 5m signatory Brexit petition

The UK Government have today responded to the record breaking petition to revoke article 50 and stop Brexit. In their response they state in no uncertain terms that they will not revoke article 50 and will proceed with Brexit regardless of the impact on the country.

Within their response they state that they are obliged to fulfil their role in delivering a democratically voted instruction from the electorate (despite the EU referendum being advisory and actually having no clear instruction or no terms).

Clearly when the referendum took place the terms of the arrangement had yet to be agreed/discussed/revealed. Now that the terms of the deal are clear, people will have likely made a different choice based on those terms. There will be people who had very little idea of how leaving the EU would impact upon their lives, but who now understand that they could be quite significantly affected by the UK leaving the EU. So, in light of this, it is quite astonishing that the UK Government are outright ignoring the petition. Although they have agreed to debate it on 1st April (April fool anyone?)
