Boris Johnson wins bid to become new UK Prime Minister

As of around lunchtime today (23rd July 20129), Boris Johnson was announced as the new leader of the Conservative Party and subsequently the de facto UK Prime Minister.

The leadership contest was fairly rigorous and ultimately ended up with Johnson and Jeremy Hunt going head to head in the final stage, which was then voted on by the Conservative party membership.

Johnson will now go on to form a Cabinet and take on the unfortunate task of leading Britain out of Europe.

Not all users of microblogging site, twitter were amused though as we witnessed the hashtag #NotMyPM trending throughout the day.
