Today Boris Johnson rejected Nicola Sturgeon’s request for a Section 30 order to enable a second referendum on Scottish Independence.
The S. 30 request was made to 10 Downing Street in writing by Nicola Sturgeon on 19th December, citing, amongst other things that Scotland being taken out of Europe against its will presented a material change in circumstances.
Boris’ rejection letter was published via his twitter account today (14th January 2020) and a swift response by Nicola Sturgeon was soon to follow.

The rejection was likely anticipated by Nicola Sturgeon and her response most likely prepared in advance.

The coming months are likely to be quite interesting in Scottish politics as the Scottish Government will have been prepared for this rejection, so its next move will become obvious in due course.
In the meantime, the rest of the country are either eagerly awaiting or dreading the 31st of January when the UK is officially taken out of Europe.
